SHPE-NYC provides its members with several opportunities to showcase their talents and increase their exposure within the New York City technology and engineering community. Our members are our greatest asset, and we value their dedication and support of the organization. Edward Montenegro

Edward Montenegro - SHPE-NYC President
Edward is a Software Developer with Barclays Capital. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the City College of New York. Edward has been actively involved with SHPE, having held positions on the National Board of Directors, regional leadership council, various committees and is a Manager for the Eastern Technical Career Conference (ETCC).

Cindy Leiton

Cindy Leiton - SHPE-NYC External Vice President
Cindy is currently working on her doctorate degree at Stony Brook University in Long Island. She has been a SHPE member for 6 years, and during this time she has been involved in various aspects of the organization. She was one of the founding members of the SHPE-University of New Haven student chapter, and one of the organizers of the Regional Leadership Conference in 2006. She joined the SHPE-NYC chapter 2 years ago, and has been involved in planning various events. Cindy is an advocate of graduate education, and a mentor to many students. In the future, she would like to improve science and engineering education programs, and run her own research lab.

Luis Scott Miranda

Luis Scott Miranda - SHPE-NYC Internal Vice President
Luis is a development team lead and manager within the Technology department at Morgan Stanley. While studying Computer Science at Binghamton University, he was a member of SHPE and held positions including community service chair and President of the chapter. Post graduation, he was a co-founder of the SHPE Mid-Hudson Valley Professional Chapter (SHPE-MHV). Luis held the Technology Director position of SHPE-NYC from 2007-2008, and is currently the Internal Vice President of the SHPE-NYC Professional Chapter.

Leony Rosa

Leony Rosa - SHPE-NYC Finance Vice President
Leony is a Wireless Test Engineer for the Northrop Grumman Corporation. He has earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York(CCNY). He has been involved with SHPE since 1998 and has served terms as Secretary and External Vice President of the LAESA-SHPE chapter of CCNY. He also has been chair of the Corporate, Professional, and Advisor registrations for the Eastern Technical and Career Conference (ETCC) for over three years. He has also been chair for the Professional, and Advisor registrations for the SHPE National Conference.

Yajaira Arvelo

Yajaira Arvelo - SHPE-NYC Executive Relations Vice President
Yajaira is an Infrastructure Senior Technical Analyst for Citigroup, responsible for the strategy and execution of Technology Asset Management across all Citigroup businesses worldwide, specializing in risk management and expense optimization.Yajaira completed her undergrad studies at Hofstra Unviersity and Masters at Stevens Institute of Technology.  She has been actively involved with SHPE serving as Communications VP from 2008-2009, and currently the Executive Relations VP of the SHPE-NYC Professional Chapter.

Francisco Tejada - SHPE-NYC Pre-College Relations Director
Cisco has been a Systems Engineer with Northrop Grumman Corp since 2003. Currently he works for the Applications Support group on the NYCWiN Network. He has been actively involved with SHPE since 2001, while at Polytechnic University he served as Treasurer and President. During Cisco's first year in the professional chapter he served on the committee for Region 4 Professional Development Program hosted by PolySHPE.  He has been Pre-College director since 2008, an initiative he is very passionate about. Cisco holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University and a Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. Cisco is also a Brooklyn Technical HS alumnus, home of the SHPE Jr Chapter sponsored by SHPE-NYC.

Monique Delmar - SHPE-NYC VP of Marketing and Public Relations 
Monique Delmar is the Manager of Applications Development for the NYC Wireless Network Project at Northrop Grumman, where she has worked since 2004. Her background includes wireless systems engineering as well as radar systems for aviation and defense. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Computer Science, both from Polytechnic University. This is Monique’s second year on the board of SHPE.

Raul Salinas

Raul Salinas - SHPE-NYC Member Development Director
Raul is a Technology Associate in Proprietary Trading with Morgan Stanley, previously in online advertising, and graduate from Carnegie Mellon University. This is the second year Raul is on the SHPE-NYC Executive Board. Previously, Raul was an active member and cook in the CMU SHPE Undergraduate chapter. Raul has been involved with Big Brothers, Big Sisters for three years.

Danny Marin

Danny Marin - SHPE-NYC Communications Director
Danny Maurizio Marín holds a BS in Engineering Science & Engineering Management from the School Of Engineering at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He started his professional career as an HR Business Analyst at Lehman Brothers and most recently worked as a Senior Associate, Business Analyst for Operations at UBS Financial Services. During his college career, he found that there weren't many Latino undergraduate engineering students at the institution he had chosen to attend. As a consequence he naturally steered towards anything Hispanic/Latino from the VAHS (Vanderbilt Association of Hispanic Students) to SHPE. It is in SHPE-VU, the Vanderbilt University chapter, that he found a welcoming group of fellow engineering students with diverse backgrounds that celebrated Latino culture while at the same time promoting the values of education and professional development. He quickly became an active member the first year of his undergraduate career and later treasurer and president. Once he graduated and came back home to New York City, he naturally sought out a SHPE Professional Chapter and has been an active member of SHPE-NYC ever since.

Jose Dumancela

Jose Dumancela - SHPE-NYC Professional Outreach Director
Jose graduated from Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.  Jose is a mechanical engineer at JB&B Consulting Engineers, a full fledged mechanical, electrical, and plumbing Consulting Engineering firm.  He has been employed there for over 7 years and was promoted to associate 2 years ago.  Jose's responsibilities include designing and managing various construction jobs, interaction with clients, architects and contractors, and city agencies.  He has been an active member of SHPE-NYC since 2006.  Jose has been involved in coordinating several events, including the 2009 Ski Trip, 2009 Barbeque, End of Year Reports, and has recently been awarded the "SHPE-NYC Valued Member" award.

Steven Rodriguez

Steven Rodriguez - SHPE-NYC University Relations Director
Steven is a recent graduate from Polytechnic Institute of NYU with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering. He began his career this summer at Northrop Grumman Corporation in Bethpage Long Island as an Embedded Software Engineer on the BAMS UAS project. During his last two years of undergrad, Steven became active in SHPE by attending both national conferences, RLDC’s and a National Board of Directors Meeting.  As an undergrad Eboard member he planned MentorSHPE day which outreached to high school students and hopes to continue his SHPE career as the new University Relations Director for the SHPE-NYC Professional Chapter. He plans to continue his education by beginning his Master’s degree in CompE at PolyNYU in the Fall ‘09 or Spring ’10.

Juan Rafael Lopez

Juan Rafael Lopez - SHPE-NYC Technology Director
Juan has been a Systems Engineer with BAE Systems since 2005. He holds an M.S. in Operations Research from Columbia University and a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. At CMU, he was the internal vice-president of the CMU SHPE Undergraduate chapter. Juan has a passion for interaction design and usability, which recently led him to complete a Professional Certificate in Digital Design and Production from New York University, specifically focusing on web usability.

David Solis

David Solis - SHPE Region IV Vice President 2010-2012 and
SHPE-NYC Lifetime Member
David first became a member of SHPE at Stony Brook University, where he studied Computer Science and Business. He reconnected with SHPE professionally in 2002 in the New York City chapter, where he held the chapter's first I.T. Director position and founded the SHPE-NYC web site. He is currently sitting on the national board of directors as the Region IV Vice President.

Professionally, David is currently a Senior Database Administrator (AVP) in Citigroup's North American Operations and Technology group since 2004. He began his career as a C programmer in the defense industry then moved onto web development in the media industry. Following that, he became a consultant where he worked various positions including Unix administration, database administration, Voice-over-IP engineering, and Program Management on Wall Street.

David has also volunteered through Citigroup for Habitat for Humanity and City Harvest.

Dora Maria Abreu

Dora Maria Abreu - SHPE Region IV Former Vice President

Dora Maria Abreu is a AVP Senior Business Analyst for Pershing LLC - subsidiary of Bank of New York Mellon. Prior to this role she worked in: NASA, IBM, NYCHA, and Goldman Sachs, Inc. She began her career as a software developer/programmer and then went on to other Technical roles dealing with Technology that dealt with migration/integration testing of legacy applications where she formulated, developed, coordinated, and implemented procedures to ensure that quality assurance standards were met in the application life cycle as well as charts and graphs for analysis. Currently she is the Region IV Vice President on the National Board of Directors for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) where she is a lifetime member.

Dora is also a lifetime member for SWE, NSBE, ALPFA, and NAACP. She is an avid volunteer and strong advocate in the community especially for youth, women & technology issues. Recent recognitions include selection as one of Maybelline's 10 most inspiring women - Empowerment through Education winners featured in People En Espanol Magazine's for inspiring and contributing to community (Dec 2007 / Jan 2008 Edition). In 2006 she was listed in Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology Magazine's annual list of "100 Most Important Hispanics in Technology and Business" for 2006. Other recognitions include El Diario/La Prensa's 50 Outstanding Latina's of the Year 2004, the New York City Council Citation for Outstanding Exemplary Citizen (2003) and the Red Cross' 9/11 Teamwork Award.

Carlos Anton

Carlos Antón - SHPE-NYC Member
Carlos Antón is a dynamic leader with a record of corporate and community achievement. Currently a Manager in Verizon’s landmark Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) project, Mr. Antón manages a large operations team that is responsible for deploying the latest fiber optic technology (voice, data, & video) to residential customers and small businesses in the state of NJ. Previously, he worked on Verizon’s post 9/11 Disaster Recovery project and has held positions in Verizon Central Office Engineering, Outside Plant Engineering, Marketing – Geographic information Systems (GIS), and Program Management.

In 2002, Mr. Antón was chosen to participate in Verizon’s competitive DLI (Development and Leadership Initiative) for High-Value Talent. Mr. Antón also has prior work experience at Boeing and General Electric Power Systems. Mr. Antón graduated from Rensselaer Polyechnic Institue in 1999 with a degree in Industrial Engineering and has also been an active board member in such organizations as: SHPE, FIRST, AYUDA, and Repertorio Español. Most notably, Mr. Antón is President Emeritus of SHPE-NYC. Mr. Antón is a previous recipient of the SHPE’s prestigious “Most Promising Engineer/Scientist Award” 2000 and was recognized by Crain’s New York Business in 2006 as a “40 under 40” rising star.

Dorinda Garcia

Dorinda Garcia - SHPE-NYC Member
Dorinda is a Software Sales Professional in charge of manaing select Wall Street Financial and Insurance accounts for IBM. She holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Univeristy of Masshacusetts and is currently pursuing her MBA in Finance at the NYU Stern School of Business. Dorinda is the Community Services Chair on the Part-Time Leadership Forum at Stern, and coaches after school programs for PowerPlay NYC. From 2005-2007 Dorinda served as the Internal VP for SHPE-NYC and was the president of her student chapter at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Carlos Armas

Carlos Armas - SHPE-NYC Member
Carlos Armas is a high performance lab engineer at Morgan Stanley, specializing in end-to-end application testing to meet the needs of different QA/Production environments. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering from Florida International University, located in sunny Miami, FL. Carlos has been involved with SHPE since early 2008 when he attended his first SHPE Conference, ETCC at Washington DC. Carlos acknowledges the important role that SHPE played for his career development and is thankful to be a member of such a prestigious group of young professionals. He looks forward to being a part of SHPE for years to come!

Gilbert Otero

Gilbert Otero - SHPE-NYC Member
Gilbert Otero is an information technology systems Integration Engineer with extensive experience and management skills and works for Morgan Stanley; a wealth managment business. Gilbert Otero's responsibilities is to drive the business through the best technical and cost effective solutions.

Outside of Morgan Stanley Gilbert is an active SHPE (3 years) and ALFPA (1 year) member. Gilbert has held the External VP position of SHPE-NYC in 2007, where he actively sought corporate sponsorship.

Johny Lopez

Johny Lopez - SHPE-NYC Member
Johny Lopez holds a BS in Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester. Johny began his career with PSEG at Hope Creek Nuclear Plant as a system engineer in 2002; he eventually moved over to reliability engineering at Salem Nuclear Plant and attained a title of Lead Engineer. Johny then began taking MBA courses at the University Of Delaware and moved over to Hudson Coal Plant as a Financial Analyst and Office Supervisor. Through the merger Johny received a promotion to Business Analyst. He recently accepted a role as PJM Portfolio Analyst with Energy, Resources and Trade. Johny also attended PSEG’s supervisory Academy in 2008 and Salem’s Integrated Power Operations Course in 2004.  

Johny was the President of SHPE-NYC from 2006-2008, during which the chapter doubled in membership, event attendance increased, and SHPE-0NYC increased the number of events offered throughout the year. The visibility and branding of SHPE-NYC grew within the New York City and New Jersey areas. Johny led an executive board of ten people and 100 members during his presidency.

Danny Cardenas

Danny Cardenas - SHPE-NYC Member
Danny is a Systems Applications Engineer with the Northrop Grumman Corp. Highly involved in SHPE, he has held the title of Treasurer for the last three terms, has been a member of the ETCC planning board committee, as well as Secretary and Vice President of his student chapter. Danny holds an MS in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Polytechnic University. Danny was the 2008-2009 President.

Carlos Colon

Carlos Colon - SHPE-NYC Member
Carlos graduated from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He was the webmaster for University of Rochester SHPE chapter. He was the Creative Director of a marketing company called Victory2 Multimedia and has recently attained a new opportunity as Web Developer for ASK.COM. Carlos has also been the Editor in Chief of the Connection Magazine and a University of Rochester campus publication called the UR Messenger.

Alfredo Ramos

Alfredo Ramos - SHPE-NYC Member
Alfredo Ramos graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Since his graduation, he has been working with Cisco Systems, Inc. as a Sales/Systems Engineer in New York City. In addition, Alfredo offers his help as a volunteer for Asociacion Tepeyac de New York and Qualitas of Life Foundation.

Elvia Morales

Elvia Morales - SHPE-NYC Member
Elvia Morales is an IT strategic sourcing manager at AllianceBernstein L.P., an investment management company in New York. She was formerly at Johnson & Johnson (J&J) where she participated in the Information Technology Leadership Development Program (ITLDP). Elvia is an alumna of -among others -the Princeton University Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship and the Eben Tisdale High Tech & Public Policy Fellowship in Washington, DC. Elvia graduated with an MS from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) where she was recently elected to the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy & Management Alumni Association Board and at which she also serves as an alumni ambassador.

Betty Grullon

Betty Grullon - SHPE-NYC Member
Betty graduated from The City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. She currently works for SI International as a Lead Developer. For the past 8 years, she has been heavily involved in the LAESA-SHPE student chapter by participating on the Executive Board as well as different committees. She has been heading the LAESA-SHPE alumni Round-Table since it was originated and is part of the Eastern Technical Career Conference (ETCC) committee as the Student Registration Chair since 2004.
